You may be wondering how I was led to name this website, "New Heart Music." As the logo tries to show, when one has accepted and invited Jesus Christ to enter one's life as Savior and Lord, his or her life is no longer their own but is the sole property of Jesus Christ to rule and reign in all areas of life. And so I placed a cross suspended within a heart to show that my life chooses to have Jesus Christ rule and reign from within as He draws everyone so willing to Himself. It is my heartfelt desire that Jesus do this through the music God has shared with me.
Also, the cross represents the cross of Christ, in that He has commanded each of His disciples choosing to follow Him to deny themselves, daily take up the cross, and follow and obey Him. (Luke 9:23-26) Therefore, this process of having a new heart is one of being changed from a normal/natural human being to one indwelt by the Spirit of the living God and power of Jesus Christ at work in and through my life is best described by Pastor Robert Timothy Cole, whom I have deep respect for. He writes: "Jesus was the first God-man. He came to start a new species of human beings – children of God – men and woman who have God living in them. As many as received Jesus to them He gave the power to become the sons of God. Those who were born of the Spirit, born of God, born from above, born-again. Our first birth is from earth. We were born of our Mother – a human being – flesh and blood. Our second birth is from Heaven. We are born of our Father – God. You must be born of the water and of the Spirit to enter the kingdom of God. Our physical birth was a water birth. That which is born of flesh is flesh. Our rebirth is a Spirit – spiritual - birth. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit. In the flesh, you are the same person, same eyes, same hair, same height, etc. In Christ, you are a brand new person that never existed before. You were created in Christ in righteousness and true holiness. You have a new nature – the nature of God – the nature of love inside you. You have your own natural abilities, but you also have the power and abilities of God inside you now. You have wisdom from above. You are accepted in the Beloved – Jesus Christ. You are redeemed by His blood. You have been given a new heart that desires to please God – that loves God and people. In addition to that, you have the Holy Spirit living in your new heart. Jesus said that He and the Father would take up their abode inside you. The Father and the Son live in you through the person of the Holy Spirit. You are a brand new creation – masterpiece – a brand new life – a new self in Christ. Sons and daughters of the living God!" Hence, my website slogan is: "God-Inspired Music from the New Heart HE Has Made!"
I hope you are as inspired by His writing as I am to have this new heart filled with Christ and growing in Him and being used up by Him for His glory! "Soli Deo Gloria!"
I began writing music at the age of twelve. I was a church musician for over 20 years, until my first stroke in January 1999, which left me paralyzed on my right side. Since I am no longer able to play piano, organ, and keyboard, I now enjoy writing music exclusively. I especially enjoy giving well-known hymns new melody lines that I feel better convey the message of the words. I have always heard music in the words, and feel that hymns become more alive when the music support the message of the text. I believe music can both promote and be worship, as well as minister to people's souls.
I studied piano as a child and continued studying piano and pipe organ at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. I received a BA in Biblical Studies and Christian Education from Wheaton College, and a MA with Honor from Wheaton Graduate School in the area of Christian Leadership, concentrating in Christian Ministries, Interpersonal Communications, and Missions (Cross-Cultural Communications) with an Hispanic emphasis.
I have also served churches as Assistant Pastor, Lay Pastor, Preaching Worship Director, Choir Director, Director of Missions and Outreach, organist, pianist, keyboardist and teacher. Most recently, I have served in the music ministry and have sung in the choir for over 16 years at Salem First Church of the Nazarene. I have continued to sing on a seasonal basis due to vision problems at night, and now my time with the choir may be compromised from paresthesia and balance problems due to two more strokes in 2013. I still continue to serve as a Member-at-Large Emeritus with and am a past Dean of the Salem, Oregon Chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
In addition to my musical pursuits, I co-lead a Stroke Survivors & Caregivers Support Group through the Salem Hospital; have served for over five years on the Disability Services Advisory Council of Northwest Senior & Disability Services in Salem, Oregon (retired in December 2011 due to medical reasons); and I am a member of the Celebration Choir and the Homebound Visitation Ministry Team at the Salem First Church of the Nazarene.
I have just finished writing my long-awaited book, FROM FEAR TO LOVE: THE PROCESS OF SALVATION - How to Really Live and Love Through Moving Away From a Spirit of Fear Towards the Spirit of Love. This book was first published on March 30, 2015, and had been in development for more than 40 years. This book has since been expanded with new information, an additional chapter, and more! It is available for free upon your email request and will be sent to you in PDF Format. Those who have read this New Expanded Edition report that it is very complete and well-done book. My email address for requesting your free copy is: swerd@NewHeartMusic.net and please be sure to state the email address I should use in my response. It is my prayer that this book will be used as an evangelistic tool, and will attract many to accept Jesus Christ as their own personal Savior and that they would choose to make Him the Lord and Master of their lives, seeking Him first and loving Him most in all areas of their lives, and serving Him with obedience to His will and calling, following Him in all they do and wherever they go. In so doing, I pray that they will experience holy communion with God now and forevermore as they experience the fullness of His eternal presence daily through His indwelling Holy Spirit of love, power, and a sound mind, in and through their lives, for God's glory alone.
The book can be received in both book and eBook formats. It retails for $16.95 for the book and $15 for the eBook. I have been married to my wife and caregiver, Sharon, for over 35 years. She is a very talented pianist, flautist, and sings a beautiful soprano. She also owns two businesses: "Sharon's Sweep 'n' Shine," specializing in deep cleaning and housekeeping and "Evergreen Enterprises Unlimited," which is an international distribution company for XanGo (TM) Mangosteen products (now marketed under the name "Zija"), all of which have many decades of solid medical and scientific laboratory research findings supporting the healthful benefits of the Mangosteen behind them. XanGo has significantly impacted my own health issues for the better. Each XanGo product is a category creator and is based on the natural goodness of the whole Mangosteen fruit, and features five product lines: XanGo Mangosteen Juice, XanGo 3SIXTY5 Nutritional Vitamin and Mineral Supplement, Eleviv, Glimpse Intuitive Skin Care treatment system), and Mangosteen Pericarp Oil.You can learn more at her website at http://www.MyMangosteen.com/swerd.
Together, the Lord has blessed Sharon and me with four children: 2 boys (Shawn Nathan, back row right, and Steve Andrew, back row left) and 2 girls (Sarah Marie, bride, back row middle right, and Shanna Ruth, Maid of Honor, back row middle left).
Shawn is married to Christena Tel and they have 3 sons (Zachary Michael, Nathan Corban, and Corban Daniel), and a daughter (Alisha Whitney). Shawn finished seminary in Spring 2008, and has been serving in Slovenia since Spring 2012. (As I mentioned on the Home page, if you feel led, you can give to Shawn and Christena for their missionary support, especially if you feel the music has any merit. Any money so designated may be sent to me and I will forward it to him and Christena or their missionary agency, Josiah Venture, so you can receive a receipt for tax-reporting purposes.) If you are interested in contributing to his family's support, you can do so by making your check out to "Josiah Venture/Missionary" and on the Memo Line on your check, write "Shawn Werdebaugh #47802" and then mail your donation to: Josiah Venture/Missionary, PO BOX 4317, Wheaton, IL 60189-4317.

Sarah graduated from Western Nebraska Community College, where she studied to be a Registered Nurse. The faculty awarded her the Most Outstanding Nursing Student Award. She passed the state board Registered Nurse Exam with flying colors the first time she took the exam and now works at the local hospital in Scottsbluff, NE. In her spare time, Sarah is a very talented artist. She married Lewis Scott Reinhardt on July 11, 2009, and they make their home in Scottsbluff, NE. They have three daughters, Halley Jean, Shayla Mae, and Kaia Lou, and a son, Raymond James.
Shanna graduated from Western Oregon University and is working for the State of Oregon, Oregon Health Authority. She also works as a part-time waitress at Olive Garden Restaurant. Shanna is also a very talented floral arranger and an artist. When she was in high school, she was so fluent in Japanese that her teacher invited Shanna to join her on a trip to Japan. She earned her own way to pay for the trip. She thoroughly enjoyed Japan and particularly the Japanese people. Now she is fluent in three languages, adding Spanish to the mix. She just purchased her first home and has been fixing it up. Most recently, Shanna has met the love of her life, a dashing Marine, and is now married to Daniel Hethorn, and they they have a new daughter, Eliana Hethorn, born on December 26, 2017.
